What Is AGTA Certification?

At MONOLISA, I believe jewelry should be as honest as it is beautiful. That’s why I choose gemstones from AGTA-certified sources for nearly every design.
What is AGTA?
AGTA stands for the American Gem Trade Association—a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to promote ethical practices and full disclosure in the gemstone industry. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, AGTA represents leading colored gemstone professionals in North America and upholds some of the most rigorous standards in the trade.
Why AGTA Certification Matters
AGTA members must follow a strict Code of Ethics, which includes:
-
Full disclosure of gemstone treatments and origins
-
Ethical sourcing and transparency throughout the supply chain
-
Support for environmental and human rights standards
AGTA also works to educate both jewelers and consumers, ensuring buyers receive truthful, consistent information about the gemstones they invest in.
How MONOLISA Uses AGTA-Certified Gemstones
Nearly all of the gemstones I use in MONOLISA designs—whether natural or lab-grown—are sourced from AGTA-member suppliers. This includes:
-
Lab-grown white sapphires
-
Natural amethyst, aquamarine, citrine, emerald, ilolite, ruby, topaz, spinel, sunstone, sapphires, and tanzanite
-
Other select colored stones featured in limited-edition designs
Choosing AGTA-certified stones ensures my customers receive not only beautiful gemstones, but also peace of mind knowing each piece was created with integrity.
A Commitment to Transparency
When you purchase a MONOLISA piece, you're not just buying jewelry—you're investing in a story of craftsmanship, honesty, and traceable sourcing. If a gemstone in your piece is lab-grown or treated in any way, I disclose that information openly—just as AGTA standards require.
